My human canvases
By the end of 2016 I felt like had my freelance design pretty well setup, with lekker clients and a good consistent workflow. The next intention for my life was to find ways to distance myself from my beloved workhorse – my MackBook Pro. I was in pursuit of creating art with my hands again. I missed drawing, the craft and the exploration that went with it all. I also really missed people. Somehow this all led me to the path of becoming a ‘handpoke’ tattoo artist. Handpoking is a tattooing method whereby no machine is used. It’s a gentler, more traditional technique whereby the needle (the same professional ones used in tattoo machine) is strapped to a stick and dipped into tattoo ink. The process is much slower and more intricate as dot-by-dot the detail comes together. (Side note: I use an imported high-quality vegan ink.) To date I have tattooed nearly 400 people. Thanks to each human canvas, future ones included, for the trust and eternal connection.
100 moon magic ° tattoos
A tattooing passion project / awareness campaign in celebration of The Divine Feminine. Using an sacred inked symbol to honour the magic of the moon and our extraordinary connection to nature, to self, and to one another. We set off on a quest to tattoo 100 full moons on 100 women in support of Girlchild: an ongoing initiative created by The Shala Yoga School (in collaboration with Earthchild and Project Dignity) dedicated to empowering and educating young girls about their “Moon Time”, womanhood, feminine hygiene, self worth and sexual rights.
To all the Lunar Ladies who joined, Moon Magic° Tattoos and Girlchild THANKS YOU! Thank you for the connection, the support, the vulnerability and the upliftment. We were able to donate R20 000 to Girlchild, R10 000 from Moon Magic Tattoos, and R10 000 from an anonymous angel who was inspired to match our amount.
If we don’t believe in magic, we will never find it. Thank you all for believing in the magic!
